Reunion at "8" reading in Salinas, CA

Now that I've finally returned home to Los Angeles, I just want to quickly share some photos from one of the most meaningful productions of "8" I've had the pleasure of participating in. The Western Stage in Salinas, CA mounted a production of "8" with the ever-talented Jon Selover directing. The Western Stage is where I cut my teeth in the theatre world as a teenager. After two seasons of working in their set, prop and lighting departments, I auditioned for their production of Peter Pan. I somehow got the part of John – AND GOT TO FLY! That same Jon Selover was my director back then.

When I showed up at that same theatre this past weekend, the surprises kept rolling – many of the actors I worked with back in my high school days had flown in from all over to take part. That included my mentor from my apprenticeship days, and the first out gay man I ever knew, my hero Leo Cortez.

Beyond the nostalgia factor though, this production was fantastic. Jon kept it rolling and the actors kept it entertaining. I'm thrilled to report that the Western Stage is still the class act I remember it being. So for any of you near the central coast in CA, go support their fine work! Get tickets to their shows! You won't regret it.

Here are some photos from the production and a few from decades back when I was in Peter Pan... on that same stage.
